WE Need Local Writers and Poets!

Two NEW Opportunities

Spoken Word Evening

As part of this year’s festival (16th-25th September) writer VG Lee will be hosting an evening celebrating local writers and poets at a spoken word event on Friday 23rd September. Each performer will be provided with a fifteen-minute slot to introduce and read from their work. A performance fee will be paid and there will be an opportunity to sell books and pamphlets.

In addition, we have arranged a workshop with VG Lee on Tuesday 20th September to help you to prepare for your performance  and give you a chance to meet your fellow performers before the night!

If you would like to be considered, please send a sample of your work (up to 1500 words or two poems up to 40 lines), along with a brief bio and tell us why you’d like to be involved to

Closing date for entry: 10pm Friday 5th August.

Care Home/Sheltered Accommodation Reading – Writers and Poets

We are keen to support adult literacy and have funding to run a pilot at a local care home and sheltered accommodation. The initial project will allow for four weekly sessions where you will read from your work to inspire/engage the audience to keep reading.

Our goal is to use the pilot to obtain funding for regular events and we’d love to have you involved at an early stage.

If you would like to apply please send an email to telling us about you, your work, and any previous experience you may have had in this field.

Closing date for entry is 5pm 17th June 2022
